The Khyber Pass Restaurant

Throwback Thursday! My father, Mohammed Hasan Nusratty, opened America’s 1st Afghan restaurant, the Khyber Pass Restaurant, in Oakland, California in 1968. So many of my earliest memories are of the restaurant, and it indelibly shaped my relationship with food and cooking.
